Albert Skira is also known for the creation of the magazine “Minotaure” in Paris in the 1930s, together with the critic and publisher Tériade, in which he involved the leading artists and writers of the period, especially Surrealists. The contributions of many artists chosen as illustrators were published in this magazine, among them Lipchitz himself - who met Skira during his stay in Paris in 1930.
Recalling the moments of the poses for this portrait, Lipchitz described the publisher as “a marvellous sitter”.
