The Mother

Arrigo Del Rigo 1928

The painting, signed and dated, depicts one of Arrigo del Rigo's favourite subjects: his mother. Here the woman, with her brown hair tied back at the nape of her neck, is depicted wearing a light-coloured apron while in the act of sewing.

Arrigo del Rigo portrayed his mother many times during his short life: within the municipal collections there are several drawings, outlines and sketches in which one can recognise her, often sitting and engaged in housework. This work was donated to the City of Prato in 2023 by the collector Franco Bertini, to be placed alongside the other paintings by Arrigo del Rigo already present on the top floor of the Museum of Palazzo Pretorio.
