After graduating in law from Pisa, Benedetti devoted himself to the composition of literary works and historical texts in which a fervent love of his country and an ardent desire for a united Italy can be perceived. Because of these sentiments, he was frowned upon by the Grand Ducal government. In May 1821, he took his own life, at the age of thirty-six. He is buried in Bucine, in the chapel of the Villa di Migliarina.
