Entrance Gate to Johnson's Roofless Church, crown

A sign of the high esteem in which Lipchitz was held by the great architects in both France and the United States is the work he did together with Johnson for the Roofless Church. Lipchitz pays attention to the individual decorative elements drawn from the Jewish, Christian and Greek mythology traditions, which have been expertly reinterpreted. It is important to note that the Roofless Church is conceived as a temple that is open to all forms of spirituality, as a means of continuing to deepen mutual knowledge in diversity, in a multicultural world that is open to all faiths.
In the nucleus of works arriving in Prato there are both models for the church's entrance doors, and the famous sculpture Between Heaven and Earth. This work, preserved in the archives, represents the synthesis of themes from various religions and beliefs that Lipchitz describes as a “plastic symphony ”.
