Nicola Monti

Lorenzo Bartolini 1840

This bust could be a portrait of the painter from Pistoia, Nicola Monti, a great friend of Bartolini. In fact, the features recall a lithographic portrait of him painted by Francesco Boggi in 1824.

The figure depicted, Monti, author in 1861 of the Memorie inutili (Useless Memoirs), in which his close friendship with Bartolini is mentioned, has distinctive and characterised features. The dating of the work fluctuates between the late 1920s and early 1930s, also on the basis of the clothing worn.
