The artwork is a fine example of the “paintings in chiaro” that were fashionable in Rome in the 18th century: it is very classical while the colours are glossy and bright.
The theme of amorous seduction should be interpreted following the idea of time, in a mystical key, i.e. with David in the guise of Jesus Christ being thunderstruck by the Church purified by baptism, represented by the figure of Bathsheba at the bath.
