Da Piazzetta 1742

The “character head” of St. John  is taken from the successful engravings of the Apostles Series, one of the most significant engraving enterprises in the Veneto region, based on paintings by Piazzetta, executed by Marco Pitteri in 1742.

The pictorial translation could be the work of another follower, Giuseppe Angeli, who directed the workshop of Giovan Battista Salvi, known as “the Sassoferrato”, after the latter's death in 1754.
