Francesco del Brina is remembered by Giorgio Vasari as having collaborated on the apparatus for the wedding of Francesco de' Medici to Joanna of Austria. In works of a religious nature, as in this case, he appears to be influenced by Michele di Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, to whom the painting was actually attributed until a few years ago. Francesco del Brina, like his brother Giovanni, was in fact a pupil of Michele. However, he differs in that his faces are softer in character, less sharp, and influenced by Leonardo's sfumato.
