Painters from the 16th century

Two of the small rooms on the second floor exhibit other 16th century artworks that are smaller in size than the altar pieces located in the adjacent hall.

Illustrating the Tuscan figurative culture during the Medici era associated with the taste of the court that favoured allegorical and profane themes, are the three Virtues by Giovan Maria Butteri, paintings with acidic and garish colours inspired by Cesare Ripa's Iconologia.
In contrast, expressing a more devout style of art, adhering to the dictates of the Council of Trento, we have the Virgin Mary with Child and Saint Catherine attributed to the Master of the Parrish Madonna or to Giulio Francia, or the panel with Saint Ursula with the Virgins by Zanobi Poggini, inspired by the austere and conservative stance of Sogliani, his master.
Lastly, of particular note are the artworks by Giovan Battista Naldini with the dramatic Passion of Christ and the small altarpiece with the Holy Family, created in collaboration with Giovanni Balducci.
