The fresco is attributed to Bettino di Corsino by Cerretelli, since it is possible to notice the hand of  the painter according to the information reported by Giani in 1917, that recalls Bettino in 1307 author of a painting of same subject for the “Camera del Comune”; whereas the work could be referred to a slightly more ancient period and be attributed to a local painter attentive to the evolution of painting in Florence at the turn of the century.

The solution of placing the large wooden throne frontally, the way of shedding light on to the folds of the clothing , reveal the articulate position of the child, with his foot seen in perspective – evidently attempting to show his skills – and the byzantine decoration of the vest-overdress of the saint deacon are all elements that induce to incline towards the aforementioned conferment.

The production of Bettino di Corsino has been related to the fragment of the fresco which has the same subject in the room of the Gonfalone of the Palazzo Comunale.
