The coat of arms, which embodies one of the most significant symbols of Prato, is inspired by the illuminated manuscript “Regia Carmina” by Convenevole da Prato (1335), preserved in the British Library of London and dedicated to king Robert of Anjou, the protector of the town. The rich heraldry, civil and religious ornamentation of French taste that prevails in the stone of Convenevole’s manuscript remains just a faint memory.
