Visiting tips

The Palazzo Pretorio Museum offers a “slow” way of enjoying culture, in contrast to the frenetic and sometimes superficial model of mass tourism.
Here, in complete calm and tranquility, the public can enjoy a conscious and immersive visit experience, slowing down and connecting with art and culture in a profound and meaningful way.

This approach to the “slow museum” is an invitation to experience culture slowly and attentively, with the pleasure of discovery and knowledge, through special events such as thematic guided tours or various tools available to the visitor.

Some tools for your visit

Museum map

You will find a printed map of the museum at the entrance.

Pretorio App

Dedicated to the visit of the Palazzo Pretorio Museum, the free app is available for Android and iOS.

Audioguides

Available for a fee for the visit (€3.00 single / €5.00 double).

Prato Card

It is the affiliation tool designed specifically for those who fully embrace the “slow” philosophy, love to return to the museum several times, discovering a new detail each time, feel part of the museum. But the Prato Card is not just this: it is a real cultural pass built on the needs of different visitors. Whether it is a passing visitor, a family or a young person under 25, the Prato Card allows a visit to the Palazzo Pretorio Museum and the other museums of the Pratomusei network at advantageous conditions. Discover all the versions and buy the Prato Card that best suits your needs directly at the ticket office or online by clicking here.

Walk in sound

A multisensory participatory experience that brings together words, sounds and images, created by the actor and performer Francesco Dendi, which allows visitors to experience art from a new perspective. Ask at the reception desk - at no additional cost to the entrance ticket - for the maps with the museum route accompanied by a legend relating to the listening stations and the reference audio track for each stop; the maps contain a QR code that, once scanned, will allow you to choose whether to play the tracks on the site's player or download them directly to your phone.

Prato, a museum every day

On any day of the week the visitor will always find a museum open and willing to welcome him!

The museum offering of the Pratomusei network, consisting of the Palazzo Pretorio Museum, the Museo del Tessuto, the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo di Prato and the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art, thanks to coordinated and alternating closures, guarantees complete public accessibility to at least one museum in the network 7 days a week.
