Projects
There are numerous relationships, participation in projects and collaborations that the Palazzo Pretorio Museum has established and continues to cultivate with various institutions.
The projects are aimed at enhancing the artistic heritage through research and enjoyment by the public also thanks to the co-participation of different skills and disciplines: an example of this are the initiatives that feature art and music, carried out in collaboration with the Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato, the Giuseppe Verdi Music School and the Fondazione Teatro Metastasio. At a social level, the expanded inclusion of the public is promoted in collaboration with the UICI (Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted), the ENS (National Deaf Organization) and the Fondazione Opera Santa Rita, while for educational projects and PCTO (Paths for transversal skills and orientation) the Museum stipulates specific agreements with schools.
Collaboration agreement with the Casa Pia de’ Ceppi Foundation
The Municipality of Prato – Palazzo Pretorio Museum and the Casa Pia de’ Ceppi Foundation – Palazzo Datini Onlus have signed a collaboration agreement that will lead to synergies for the enhancement of the cultural heritage of the city of Prato.
The agreement arises from the common desire of the two historic Prato institutions to develop the forms of mutual collaboration already in place, such as the cycle of guided tours “From Palace to Palace”, and to relaunch them with a joint programming of cultural events and a coordinated planning of communication strategies in order to highlight their respective activities, with particular reference to the carrying out of guided tours - in which the State Archives of Prato can also join - and educational activities for schools and families.
Prato Comunità Educante
Funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Prato and Intesa San Paolo, with the social cooperative Pane&Rose and the Cieli Aperti association as leaders, the project aims to help young people - especially the most vulnerable - to have broader perspectives, to become aware people and citizens, countering the very serious phenomenon of child educational poverty and school dropout.
This occurs through the creation of project networks that involve third sector bodies and associations, cultural institutions and schools, aiming to overcome the barriers between the different disciplines and making the arts, theater, music, science and physical activity interact.
The Municipality of Prato – Palazzo Pretorio Museum is one of the subjects involved and in the 2023/2024 year it joined the path “A very small revolution” through the meeting between its educational section and those of the Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci , the Museo del Tessuto, the artist Cristina Pancini together with teachers, students and three-year students of the Secondary Schools of Prato.
RESTORE
The RESTORE – smaRt accESs TO digital heRitage and mEmory project, funded by the Tuscany Region, worked on the integration of data belonging to different cultural fields (archival, lexicographical, historical-artistic), creating a unique knowledge base on the history of the city of Prato and its institutions.
RESTORE is a collaborative project involving different subjects: research institutions such as the CNR and Opera del Vocabolario Italiano, operators of the regional cultural and creative supply chain such as the State Archives of Prato, the Museum of Palazzo Pretorio, the Archivist and Bibliographic Superintendence of Tuscany, and SMEs such as SPACE s.p.a.

Enhancement of the Archaeological Area of Gonfienti
The Municipality of Prato and the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan city of Florence and the provinces of Pistoia and Prato have joined forces since 2022 to enhance the archaeological context of Gonfienti: a site of primary importance, a short distance from the center of Prato, where evidence of the most ancient phases of the territory have been found, from the settlement of the mid-2nd millennium BC, dating back to the Bronze Age, to the vast Etruscan settlement of the Archaic age, up to the structures of the Roman age.
In 2024, the Municipality of Prato and the Archaeological Group "L'Offerente" (G.A.O.) signed a collaboration agreement for the enhancement of the Gonfienti area: the agreement concerns the care of the archaeological site and the laboratory of the Mulino di Gonfienti, with the aim of improving the quality of the services offered and the reception of visitors. The activity is carried out on a voluntary basis by the Archaeological Group “L’Offerente” (G.A.O.), founded in 1994 by the will of Maurizio Bini and Alberto Bonaiuti, and which since its foundation has been committed to research and valorization of the archaeological heritage of the province of Prato.
